Bookbag Give-A-Way

In August we will celebrate our 2nd Annual Bookbag Give-A-Way for the children of our area.  If you would like to sponsor a bookbag and supplies for $30, please send a check payable to Holy Cross Lutheran Church at 1913 US Hwy 601 South, Mocksville, NC,  27028.

June Annual Food Drive

Congratulations to our Youth for once again leading our annual food drive.  They collected and donated over 500 items to Our Daily Bread Food Pantry and Storehouse for Jesus.

“PLEASE READ TO ME” was a month-long project for members of Holy Cross to collect new and gently used books for children in our area.

60 board books were given to the Davie Pregnancy Care Center for new mothers and their babies.

389 books for grades K-5 were given to Cooleemee Elementary and Mocksville Elementary for children to select, keep, and have appropriate reading level material in their homes.

We participated in the Baby Bottle Project during the Lenten season.  All of the collected monies were donated to the Davie Pregnancy Care Center.  This agency provides support during each client’s pregnancy with their goals, physical needs, and emotional health; the agency works to make a positive impact on young families in our community.

Our congregation donated towels, washcloths, and hygiene items during January as “Bundles of Care”.  336 items were donated or purchased with a Thrivent Action Team card.  24 “Bundles of Care” were delivered to “Our Daily Bread” food pantry at The Episcopal Church of The Ascension.  These items will be donated to the clients of the food pantry.

18 fleece blankets have been made and were delivered to the Davie County EMS Special Services Unit that provides aid to the homeless in Davie County.  Hopefully these blankets will provide warmth to our neighbors in need.

HATS For The HOMELESS  –  More than 100 warm hats were donated to The Dwelling in Winston-Salem, a ministry that serves many of the homeless in the area.  Holy Cross members will continue in 2024 to make hats  for the homeless in Davie, Forsyth, and Rowan counties.

We collected 75 boxes of tissues, 12 large bottles of hand sanitizer, and 36 canisters of Clorox wipes.  These were shared with Dragonfly House and Cooleemee Elementary School.

“Buzy Hands” meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month to work on various projects.  Following each meeting, these folks share a meal and fellowship.

Thanks to a Thrivent Action Team card, we provide meals to the residents of Lakewood throughout the year.  We are grateful to Thrivent for this opportunity to share with those in need.

Blue Door Restore (an agency in Mocksville to help children in foster care) received donations from Holy Cross.  Six new pairs of shoes, boxes of diapers, and some school supplies were given to Blue Door to be shared with children in need.
