Our Youth will sponsor their 4th annual Food Drive during May. All members of the congregation are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items or paper products to this project. A Thrivent card will allow the youth to purchase additional food. All items will be donated to “Our Daily Bread” food pantry or “Storehouse for Jesus” This project helps the many people in our community facing food insecurity.
Diaper Drive
A Diaper Drive was held in March to provide much needed diapers to the Davie Pregnancy Center and Blue Door Restore. Members of the congregation donated boxes of diapers (AND WIPES), and a Thrivent card was used to purchase additional boxes of diapers of all sizes.
BLESSING OF THE ANNIMALS
Our congregation held a special event at the Station Pizzeria in Mocksville. People brought their pet(s) to be individually blessed by Pastor Stacey Brady. Treat bags were given to the owners of the 20 dogs that were blessed.
THANK YOU, VETERANS
Our congregation collected items that were given to the VA Hospital in Salisbury or to veterans in need in our community. Our collection included personal hygiene items, blankets, clothing, shoes, and other items. These needed items were delivered in early November.
Bookbag Give-A-Way
Our 4th annual Bookbag Give-A-Way is scheduled for August. We will give away a free bookbag with school supplies to any student (pre-K to grade 12). This is a drive-thru event in the church parking lot. REQUIREMENT: student MUST be in the vehicle to receive a bookbag.
Cooleemee Community Food Pantry
Holy Cross sponsored the Cooleemee Community Food Pantry in January. A Thrivent card was used to purchase non-perishable food. Members of the congregation also contributed to this very worthy cause. The food pantry is open each month on the 2nd Saturday from 10:00 until 11:30. It is also open on the 4th Saturday of each month from 3:30 until 5:00.
“Buzy Hands” meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month to work on various projects. Currently their time together includes a book study of The Gift Of Years by Joan Chittister.
Thanks to a Thrivent Action Team card, we are able to prepare and deliver meals to the residents of a Group Home in Mocksville. We share not only food but wonderful fellowship to these sweet people.
“Please Read To Me” was a great success. We were able to donate 449 new or gently used books to Mocksville Elementary, Cornatzer Elementary, and Davie Pregnancy Center. Each book will be given to a child to keep and hopefully encourage a love for reading.
